Location

AT&T Gloabl Smart Messaging has the ability to capture the location of user devices when they send a response (delivery receipt or message) to your A2P account. The location is only requested along with the message or delivery receipt information - user devices cannot be tracked 24/7.

The Location setting for your A2P account is controlled at the platform level and can only be changed by your provisioning team (AT&T). This setting cannot be amended from message to message. Options available are as follows:

NONE

No location data will be requested from the user devices, and no location data will be stored.

OPTIONAL

Your A2P account will request location from the user; however the user will have the option of deciding whether they wish to send their location or not within the AT&T GSM application. Data received will be stored in the message report.

MANDATORY

Your A2P account will request location data from the user and the user will not be able to disable the sending of their location in the AT&T GSM application. Data received will be stored in the message report.

Important note about location information

If the user's device has location services disabled for any reason, then the AT&T GSM application will not be able to collect and provide any location information from that user device. This will be the case even if your A2P account has set the location collection to Mandatory. The user of the device will not receive any indication in the app that their location is not being sent.

Where an A2P account has location information set to Optional or Mandatory, the user device will see a map pin next to your A2P account avatar. The colour of the map pin determines whether their location is being sent or not when interacting with that A2P account.

Grey Map Pin indicates that the A2P account is requesting location; however the user device is not broadcasting it.

Blue Map Pin indicates that the user device is sharing its location when interacting with that A2P account.
